6th January 2020

Morning Year 4,

This is not how we would have hoped that our new year would begin but as we can't be in school at the moment, there are activities set for you online this week.I hope you had a very special Christmas with your families and Happy New Year to you all.

If you have any problems with any of the activities, please email me or send me a message on classroom and I will do all that I can to help. I would love to see some photographs if you take any of the tasks too.

Next week, there will also be some timetabled live sessions which is very exciting, it will be so lovely to see you all. I will keep you updated on times and instructions to be able to access these sessions.
Please try your best and keep being the best that you can be. I really am so proud of each and every one of you and I will look forward to seeing all of your smiling faces when we can be in school again.

* Read the text set on Giglets 'Too much chocolate'.
Ali has a Christmas she won't forget ... one with much more chocolate than she had bargained for!
Listen to the theme music and read the book. You can listen to the audio version or ask an adult to help if needed.
How did Ali feel about having so much Chocolate for Christmas?
Why did her family do this?
What was Ali's favourite present? Why was it to special?

* After reading 'Too much chocolate', complete the HOTS questions linked to the text.

*  Think carefully about Ali's presents.
Why was her favourite present such a surprise?
What was your favourite present/memory of Christmas with your family?
Write about it to show me why it was so special to you. (Google Classroom)
I have also set this as a task for you on Purple Mash so it is up to you how you prefer to record it.

*. Epiphany - Today (6th January) is the feast of the Epiphany.
This day marks the date that the three wise men had followed a star to visit the baby Jesus.
The three wise men brought expensive gifts to give to Jesus. Read the powerpoint to remind yourselves of the story.
If you could give a gift to Jesus that doesn't cost anything. What would you give him?
Watch the video. What qualities did the people show?
Create a gift tag to show what gift you would give to Jesus and give reasons why., e.g. kindness, compassion etc.
I would give Jesus the gift of love because God sent Him to earth to spread love to everyone in the world.

*. New Year's Resolution - As we begin 2021, we reflect on things that we did well in 2020 and things that we can improve in 2021.
This will help us to keep trying to be the best that we can be.
Read the powerpoint and create your new year's resolution on the star.

* New Year's Traditions - New year is a time to make resolutions and start a fresh year.
There are also many traditions that people used to have in the past. Read the powerpoint to explore these traditions.
How were things different when celebrating 'Yr Hen Galan'?
Are there any of these traditions that you would have liked? Why?
Compare traditions from 'Yr Hen Galan' with traditions that we have now.
You might even want to make a Perllan using resources that you have in your home or garden.

* Negative numbers - Finding the value of an unlabelled division on a negative number line (Purple Mash).

* Mathletics - nearest ten,  using a calendar and temperature.

* Complete tasks set by Mrs Jones on Charanga.

* Spend quality time with your family and do something to help at home, e.g. tidy your bedroom, help with the dishes, cook a meal with an adult etc.
If having to stay at home has taught us anything, it really is how important our family are to us. Share your special memories, watch a film, read a book.
It is also important to still exercise when you can too, so if it's dry maybe try to go for a walk, try Cosmic kids yoga or Joe Wicks.

Enjoy these special moments with your family and I will look forward to us all being back together in class when we can be.

Mrs Jones x
